Principal's Corner

Dear Parents and Students:

We are off to a great start for the 2014-15 school year!  All our teaching positions have been filled with highly-qualified teachers and we are excited about developing leadership qualities in our staff and students as we apply Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People through our “Leader in Me” operating system.  We are already seeing students rise to the challenge of discovering and applying their own leadership skills and applying the habits to daily decisions.

On July the 15th, Corbin White from Franklin-Covey introduced our teachers and staff to the “Leader In Me” philosophy and practices.  Prior to his presentation, members of our student council explained the habits to the staff members.  During the first three days of fall break, all teachers, administration and key staff members will be trained in the 7 Habits.  On the 18th of December, we will receive implementation training and our campus improvement team or “Lighthouse Team” will be trained on the 19th.  Ask your student or your student’s teacher for more information.  We highly recommend the book by Stephen R. Covey, The Leader In Me.

The consolidation of the K-2 campus and the 3-8 campus has been completed.  We are so excited to have all our team in one location!  This will increase our communication and efficiency while helping FUSD save thousands of dollars.  It is a great example of making lemonade when one receives lemons!  We definitely need to thank Mark Lamas, Henry Villalobos and all the district and campus personnel who have worked so hard to make this consolidation go as smoothly and efficiently as possible.  The custodial staff has been fabulous!

Finally, we would be remiss if we did not express our appreciation, along my personal appreciation as a first year principal in FUSD, to Dr. Fuller, the district team and our wonderful Board of Trustees for their support, leadership and for always helping us keep Kids First.  Most of all, we thank you for the great trust you place in us as you allow us the privilege of serving your children!

While 65% of Arizona voters are registered, roughly half of our state’s voters actually vote!   The Challenge: using baseline voter registration statistics from the Arizona State Elections Office, O’Connor House has issued a challenge to all Arizona citizens to improve our state’s voter statistics by 10% in each county for the November 4, 2014 election.
Please help your student and our school by doing your part in voting in the next election!
