We are Leaders at Walker Butte!

Principal's Corner

 Dear Students and Parents,

Our school year finished on a high note with both of our girls basketball teams winning the district championship.  The girls B team has won the championship three years consecutively!  We are very proud of these young ladies.

On May 23rd the eighth grade class celebrated their successful career at Walker Butte with a gala dance.  They chose the theme of “masquerade” and most students wore masks that covered their eyes.  The music was excellent and the decorations were phenomenal with streamers and purple, white and grey balloons.  The refreshments were catered by Moreno's, a local Mexican restaurant.  It was truly a celebration to appropriately commemorate the class’ achievements.  The eighth grade teachers did a great job organizing the dance and eighth grade promotion.

We held two promotions on May 27th- our kindergarten promotion and our eighth grade promotion.  The kindergarten promotion was organized by Mrs. Ryba and Mrs. Dancer and was well attended by parents and family members.  Mr. Daily came “back home” to represent the school board at both promotions and Mr. de la Torre represented Poston Butte High School.  The kindergarten students sang between the presentation of the certificates to the different classes.  This year we had an AM class, a PM class and the all-day kindergarten class and all received certificates.  We are looking forward to free all-day kindergarten for students next year!  After the event, all present gathered in the cafeteria for cake and fruit juice.

The eighth grade promotion was held that same evening and was “standing room only” in the school gymnasium.  The decorations were awesome.  Epic Church kindly provided the stage, lights and sound that made the event even more special for parents, community and students.  Martina Borquez spoke representing the class of 2018, Mr. Daily gave some timely counsel and congratulatory remarks and Mr. de la Torre welcomed the incoming freshmen to high school.  After the recessional, friends, family and graduates all met in the cafeteria for pictures and farewells.  Many a tear was shed as students and family left Walker Butte that evening.

We are already preparing for next school year.  Walker Butte, usually quiet and serene this time of year, is a buzz of activity as rooms are being made ready and furniture and supplies are being moved up from the K-2 campus as we consolidate to one campus.  We are excited to begin our new school year together on one campus.  We are also excited as we move into becoming a “Leader in Me” school, teaching and applying Covey’s 7 Habits to help Walker Butte become a leading school in Pinal County!

Sincerely,
Paul Hatch
