I hope everyone had a great fall break and welcome students and staff back for the second quarter of the 2014-15 school year.
Just before the intercession, Melissa Lopez, one of our first grade teachers, took 6 of our Student Council representatives to Walk4Education, an event held on September 13th before the Arizona Diamondbacks game at Chase Field. This event was to highlight the great work our state’s public schools do for kids. Our students represented Walker Butte and FUSD so well that Channel 5 TV news interviewed them. The students explained The Leader In Me philosophy and Covey’s 7 Habits to the people attending the event and to the press. We are very proud of our students and thank Mrs. Lopez for giving up her Saturday to take them, and to Mrs. Polina for helping prepare them.
On September 16th, our boys baseball team won the district championship by beating Circle Cross Ranch in a hard-fought game. Both teams played well and showed true sportsmanship. Truly, our Coyotes are leaders in athletics and so many other areas!
We are continuing our Friday Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to review the students' progress during the past week and plan re-teach or enrich instruction for the following week. Tutorials are held twice a week at each grade level. The grade level teachers plan and schedule these tutorial activities.
During the first three days of the fall break, on September 22nd - 24th, our teachers attended an excellent training in Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. They did so without pay and because they are truly dedicated to helping our students develop as tomorrow's leaders. All but one of our teachers participated along with several of our office and support staff.
Look for upcoming information about our winter sports, fall festival and other events on the school website. We wish you a happy and productive fall season!
